Alberta Fencing Association (AFA) Membership

In order to participate in fencing classes, club activities and competitions, each fencer has to join the Alberta Fencing Association. There are 3 membership levels to choose from, depending on the level of participation in club activities and in AFA events.

Trial membership is available to athletes new to the sport of fencing who participate in club practices and club or AFA outreach/community programs. Trial-level members may compete in no tournaments, enroll in no AFA courses or clinics, and may not participate in classes or programming over the course of more than 6 weeks.

The Associate (Recreational) Membership (ASSC) is an annual membership. It allows individuals to partake in classes and events at affiliated clubs. Benefits include: liability insurance coverage, support the development of coaching and refereeing in Alberta, administrative coordination between the clubs, provinces and the Canadian Fencing Federation and ability to sign up for various courses and events offerred by the AFA.

The Competitive Membership (COMP). It provides all of the services of the Associate Membership as well as: the ability to participate at a competitive level in Alberta and at out-of-province/country events and to be included in the Alberta Provincial Rankings to be eligible for performance funding. It also includes subsidizing referees for provincial competition and subsidizing purchase and maintenance of provincial tournament equipment.
